Eleutherococcus root was widely used in China, Russia and Japan as an adaptogen to combat stress and fatigue. The Eleutherococcus is a hardy shrub with deciduous and serrated leaves. Renowned for increasing athletic, cerebral and cognitive performance, Eleutherococcus became very popular with athletes and cosmonauts during the Soviet Union era.
