Seasonal hair loss: how to avoid it?

By Mary Capelle, naturopath

Who says change of season, says hair loss. Indeed, in spring and autumn, the natural phenomenon of hair loss can be more important. This is seasonal hair loss. So we reached out to naturopath Mary Capelle and asked her top tips for getting stronger, longer, shinier hair!

SPACE THE SHAMPOOS

Not always easy, but we take advantage of the days of teleworking to try to space out our shampoos as much as possible.

And when you shampoo, only wash the hairline and the scalp without touching the lengths which are generally very dry. Except after a mask or an oil bath.

USE NEUTRAL SHAMPOOS

Choose neutral and organic shampoos with as few ingredients as possible. The lighter the formula, the better it is for your hair. You can add a few drops of tea tree essential oil to purify the scalp and have shinier hair.

TAKE CURES

Do cures several times a year, especially when the seasons change (organic silicon, nettle, zinc, spirulina, vitamin C, wheat germ oil...) and of course, the La Beauté d'Hygée cure , based on ' Amla , which Indians have always used to prevent hair loss.

The beauty

CUT YOUR HAIR REGULARLY

Cut the ends every 3 months to have longer and thicker hair and preferably during the ascending moon, between the black moon and the full moon.

TEST THE OIL BATHS

Once a week, do oil baths on the lengths and on the skull with two different oils: castor or fenugreek oil for the roots (they stimulate growth). Argan, sweet almond, coconut or avocado oil for the lengths. Do not hesitate to massage the scalp gently for a few minutes to promote the vascularization of the bulbs.

The best is to leave it overnight (protecting your pillow) to deeply nourish your hair. I always choose organic and cold extracted oils.

RINSE WITH VINEGAR

After shampooing, rinse your hair with cool water or even better with 500ml of cool water and a tablespoon of cider vinegar for super shiny hair.

DRY THEM GENTLY

Do not rub the hair too abruptly in a towel. Gently blot the hair then wrap it in a towel.

UNTANGLE THEM GENTLY

Take care of your hair when detangling by always starting by combing it from the bottom of the hair and then working your way up. This will avoid breaking them.

AVOID THE HAIR DRYER

Avoid using a hair dryer which damages the lengths. To get sheathed hair with pretty waves, I like to twirl it around with my fingers as it air-drys. Guaranteed effect!

DON'T TIE THEM UP

Avoid tying them too tight with rubber bands and favor crab clips or spiral-shaped rubber bands so as not to suffocate or break the hair.

WATCH YOUR DIET

A healthy and varied diet, rich in protein and vitamins, is the key to having healthy hair and accelerating its growth. We go for vegetable proteins (legumes, spirulina, oilseeds), good fats (omega 3-6-9), whole grains, fruits and vegetables, seaweed for good nutrients and minerals. We zap the bad fats and sugar that slow down hair growth.
